Meyerowitz has always considered himself a traditional “street photographer” — walking the streets, capturing life. Where others used black and white, he was an early advocate of color photography. He was instrumental in changing attitudes toward the use of color photography from one of resistance to one of celebration and revelation. In 1976 Meyerowitz began photographing Cape Cod, where over many summers he produced works in which the same views were recorded at different times of day to capture subtle changes in light and atmosphere.
