By superimposing delicate lines over vibrant fields of color, Kate Shepherd evokes the planar structure of space in works that are bold and spare at the same time. Her mastery of linear perspective—the depiction of three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface—helps envelop the viewer, giving each piece a feeling of being both close at hand and far away. The spaces she creates seem familiar, but for Shepherd the viewer’s metaphorical and physical experiences of this space are of utmost importance.
