Jason Middlebrook (b. 1957, Jackson, Michigan) received his BFA from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1990. He then went on to receive his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1994. From 1994-1995 he participated in the year long Whitney Independent Program in New York City.
Middlebrook is a mixed-media artist who works in sculpture, installation, and site-specific projects. His work often deals with the interaction of nature and human and the exact moment at which they collide. The works are visually diverse, ranging from hardwood planks painted with geometric designs to massive spider-like outdoor sculptures to realistic paintings of birds flanked by abstract backgrounds.
Middlebrook’s works have been featured in exhibitions at the New Museum (New York), the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), MASS MoCA (North Adams), and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. He lives and works in Hudson, New York.
Jason Middlebrook has worked on multiple projects with RxART, including installations at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, NY; Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX; CHRISTUS Hospital – St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, TX; Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center in San Francisco, CA; and New York City’s Metropolitan Hospital.
