• DJ Simon de Pury

Two turntables and an auctioneer? DJ Simon de Pury—yes, DJ—reveals his groove-inducing playlist and the fact that he’ll be spinning at RxArt’s 10th Anniversary Party on page 59 of this month’s W Magazine!

  • Frank Gehry

Frank Gehry takes a cue from RxArt with his boundary-pushing design for The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, an Alzheimer’s center in Las Vegas that’s one of the nation’s leading institutions for research on degenerative brain diseases.

In true Gehry form, the building’s curvatures create a space that’s more “Fantasia” than “facility.” But perhaps even more impressive is the fact that the architecture also alludes to the hemispheres of the brain: the north and south wings of the clinic represent the rational and creative parts of our mind respectively.

One small step for Mr. Gehry’s prolific portfolio, one huge step for the future of healthcare design.

  • NY Art Book Fair

As if planning a 10th Anniversary gala isn’t enough for a team of only four, RxArt has also decided to join over 200 artists, booksellers, organizations and publishers from twenty different countries at the NY Art Book Fair this year!

Held at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, the Fair continues to be the premier destination for all things hip, printed and bound (which of course includes our Between the Lines contemporary artist coloring books). Mark your calendars for the weekend of November 5th to 7th and stop by our booth to pick up some charitable goods—we’ll even throw in a free smile.

  • James Nord

We’re in the process of putting together a retrospective catalog of our hospital installations for the big event, and to make it a surefire bookshelf and/or coffee table staple, we’ve commissioned none other than James Nord as our photographer!

Take a break from that important, time-sensitive project you’re currently working on and visit his blog for a stylistic preview.

  • Yoshitomo Nara’s Donation

If you haven’t seen Yoshitomo Nara’s show at the Asia Society, we highly recommend that you put it at the top of your to-do list. And right underneath should be the task of attending our 10th Anniversary Party to see/(bid on?) his phenomenal donated piece. It’s a gem if we ever saw one, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share it with the blogosphere.

  • The Weiser Family

While the rain and gloom persists, RxArt has reason to keep our heads high!

Last week, we hosted a breakfast with old friends, new faces, and artist Kate Shepherd, whose fabulous works are displayed in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at Roosevelt Hospital. Guests came together to discuss our mission and learn about future projects while indulging in mimosas and sweet and savory treats from City Bakery and CeciCela Patisserie. Everyone left with excitement for RxArt’s bright future as well as a goody bag compliments of the ever-fabulous Baking for Good.

We’d like to extend our sincerest thanks to the Weiser Family who so graciously opened their home and shared their incredible art collection; also, to Kate Shepherd for being a longtime friend of the organization. We’re endlessly grateful to all for your continued support, and look forward to many more scrumptious (and educational) events!

  • Foot Field

Spoiler alert! In the next few weeks we’ll be posting sneak peeks of the artworks up for grabs at our upcoming 10th Anniversary Party auction so you can start saving your pennies! Today, we give you Foot Field by William Wegman (an obvious favorite among RxArt staffers).

  • Save the Date

With the recent heat wave in NYC, it seems as though the end of summer is far from “just around the corner.” But when temperatures finally begin to drop in the city, RxArt will start to heat up as we prepare for our 10th Anniversary Gala—aptly named the RxArt Party—this fall.
2010 is an extra special year for us, as RxArt is proudly recognizing a decade of enlivening hospitals with fine art! Our Party will be held in honor of some major accomplishments—including our recent completion of the Jeff Koons CT Scan Suite project as well as exciting collaborations with Ryan McGinley and Terry Richardson for Kings County Hospital—and we invite you to join us in celebration with a night of music, cocktails, and an exclusive contemporary art auction!
Please visit our official website <a href=rxart.net or just click on the “Save The Date” poster above for more details about the big event. We also encourage you to stay up to date by following us on Twitter and becoming a fan on Facebook, as we’ll be posting new information in the coming days and weeks (like the announcement of our guest DJs)! Be sure to mark your calenders for Monday, November 15th, 2010—it’s guaranteed to be an unforgettable night!" />
